The grand event, titled “Modi and US,” served as a backdrop to Modi’s key message: India’s growth story is a collective effort, with the diaspora playing a pivotal role. He affectionately called them “Rashtradoots” or ambassadors of the nation, emphasizing their unparalleled contributions in bolstering India's image and strengthening the India-US partnership. "Wherever I go in the world, every leader praises the Indian diaspora. Your skill, talent, and commitment have no competition," he said, acknowledging the diaspora’s role as the backbone of India’s global soft power.

Strengthening India-US Ties Through AI: "American-Indian Spirit"

A focal point of Modi's speech was his emphasis on what he called the "American-Indian spirit," rebranding AI to mean more than just artificial intelligence. He emphasized that the Indian diaspora, particularly in the U.S., is at the forefront of advancements in technology, especially in fields like artificial intelligence, research, and innovation. Modi lauded the synergy between Indian talent and American opportunity, stating that this collaboration has the potential to shape the future of both nations, while also driving global progress in key sectors such as AI, healthcare, and digital innovation.

India's Global Vision: Viksit Bharat and the Power of PUSHP

Modi also shared his vision for a "Viksit Bharat" (Developed India), coining the term "PUSHP" to define the next phase of India’s progress. According to him, this acronym represents a Progressive, Unstoppable, Spiritual, Harmonious, and Prosperous Bharat. "In this third term, we have to achieve big targets. We will build Viksit Bharat, combining the five petals of PUSHP," Modi announced. He highlighted India's technological advances, from its 5G market, which he noted was now larger than the United States, to its ambitions in AI and made-in-India 6G technology.

Indian Diaspora's Role: From Education to Hollywood

Modi’s address at Nassau Coliseum also focused on tangible outcomes for the Indian community in the US. He announced plans to open two new Indian consulates in Boston and Los Angeles—long-awaited developments in cities with growing Indian populations. Boston, hailed as the education capital of the US, and Los Angeles, home to Hollywood and the upcoming Summer Olympics, will see an increased Indian diplomatic presence, a move that resonates with the diaspora’s expanding influence.

Throughout the event, Modi returned to the theme of Indian excellence. From the Indian-American players' success in cricket at the ICC T20 World Cup to the diaspora’s contributions in diverse sectors ranging from technology to the arts, the Prime Minister repeatedly lauded their unmatched talents. He further emphasized the Indian tradition of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam"—the idea that "the world is one family," which has been a guiding principle for Indian expatriates around the globe.

In his address to a massive gathering of the Indian diaspora at Nassau Coliseum, New York, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the growing influence and contribution of the Indian community worldwide. He praised the diaspora for being a bridge between India and the world, emphasizing their role in strengthening India's global standing. Modi spoke passionately about India's progress in technology, innovation, and economic reforms, calling for continued collaboration between India and Indian-origin communities abroad. He also mentioned the transformative power of India's youth, describing them as key drivers of change in shaping the country's future.

Some of Modi's standout quotes from the address include:

  • "The strength of India is the strength of its diaspora" – Acknowledging the vital role the Indian community abroad plays in India's global rise.
  • "India is not just a country, it is a civilization" – Reminding the diaspora of their deep cultural roots and historical significance.
  • "Our youth are the innovators, creators, and leaders of tomorrow" – Highlighting the potential of India's young generation.
  • "India’s democracy is our greatest strength" – Reaffirming his belief in democratic values as the foundation for India's progress.
  • "Together, we are creating a new global identity for India" – Emphasizing unity between India and its diaspora in building a modern and strong nation.

A New Era of Collaboration: India and America

As Modi concluded his tour, which culminated in his participation at the UN's "Summit of the Future" on September 23, the message was clear: India is poised to take on a greater global role, both as a force for peace and development. "India’s role will be crucial in accelerating the global peace process," Modi said, echoing his famous words at the UN General Assembly last year: "This is not the time for war."

Modi Meeting Indian Diaspora

For India, the USA remains not just a strategic partner but also a nation that shares its vision of a future led by technological innovation, peace, and prosperity. Modi’s American tour has not only cemented the India-US relationship but also celebrated the Indian diaspora as key architects in this evolving partnership. As Modi stood on the Nassau stage, surrounded by the cheers of thousands of Indian Americans, his visit was a testament to the growing influence of both nations, powered by the "American-Indian spirit."
