Indian-American girl listed in 'world's brightest students' list by John Hopkins

A 9-year-old Indian-American schoolgirl, Preesha Chakraborty, is on the list of 'world's brightest students' published by Johns Hopkins Centre for Talented Youth. 

Nine year old Preesha Chakraborty adds to this legacy by making it to the list of 'world’s brightest' students prepared by the prestigious Johns Hopkins Centre for Talented Youth. Preesha was figured in the list after the results of above-grade-level tests of over 16,000 students from over 90 countries were assessed, the Johns Hopkins Centre for Talented Youth said.

Preesha is a Grade 3 student at the Warm Spring Elementary school student in Fremont, California. She had taken the US-based Johns Hopkins Centre for Talented Youth (JH-CTY) test in Summer 2023. Preesha made it to the list after tests of over 16,000 students from more than 90 countries were assessed. She was honored for her exceptional performance on SAT (scholastic Assessment Test), ACT (American College Testing), School and College Ability Test, and similar tests as part of the CTY Talent Search.

Natasha Perianayagam, a 13-year-old Indian-American student, has previously earned a spot on the "world's brightest" students list for the second consecutive year, as recognized by the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth. Perianayagam, who attends Florence M Gaudineer Middle School in New Jersey, took the Johns Hopkins Center For Talented Youth (CTY) test in Spring 2021, exhibiting results in verbal and quantitative sections that aligned with advanced Grade 8 performance.

Indian Americans have gained a reputation for excelling in education, and one notable arena where their talents shine is the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

This annual spelling competition in the United States sees young participants from across the country. Indian American students have consistently made a mark in the competition, often reaching the final rounds and securing championships.

Their impressive performances, marked by a deep understanding of complex vocabulary, have contributed to the overall success of the Indian American community in the Scripps Spelling Bee, highlighting their dedication to academic excellence and language proficiency.
