In celebration of India's 78th Independence Day, Write the World is excited to announce the launch of a Science Writing Competition exclusively for Indian teens. As one of the very first international platforms to empower young writers aged 13-19, Write the World is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of thinkers and storytellers.

About Write the World

Write the World is an online writing community that has been inspiring young writers since its founding at Harvard University in 2012. In 2024 alone, over 7,000 young writers and 250 educators of Indian descent participated in Write the World’s free competitions, demonstrating a growing interest in various genres within the Indian community. The platform offers monthly writing competitions in different genres, including the upcoming Science Writing Competition, which opens on September 3rd.

The Power of Science Writing

Science writing serves as a crucial bridge between complex scientific concepts and the general public. By translating technical jargon into accessible language, science writers make science engaging and understandable for everyone. In an era where misinformation often spreads like wildfire, the ability to clearly and accurately convey ideas is more vital than ever. For teenagers in the Indian diaspora, particularly those passionate about science and creative thinking, this competition is a golden opportunity to showcase their talents.

 About the Science Writing Competition

How do fireflies light up? How do sonar waves travel underwater? How does artificial intelligence actually work? These are the kinds of questions that science writers tackle, making complex ideas understandable and captivating to a broad audience. In September, Write the World’s Science Writing Competition challenges teen writers to craft an article (400-1,000 words) that explains a scientific concept or idea in an engaging and creative way.

The competition offers an excellent opportunity for teenagers to hone their science writing skills, engage with peers, and win exciting prizes. Participants will conduct in-depth research, create original written work on a scientific topic of interest, and receive valuable feedback from expert reviewers and peers. Spread the word and encourage young writers to sign up for the competition—there might just be a future Rudyard Kipling or C.V. Raman waiting to emerge!
