Oscar nominated British actor Dev Patel is creating buzz by the launch of his upcoming action-thriller directorial debut: Monkey Man.
Not only is this Dev Patel's feature directorial debut – he also produced the movie, wrote the script, and stars in the lead role. The cast includes Sharlto Copley, Sobhita Dhulipala, Pitobash, Vipin Sharma, Ashwini Kalsekar, Makarand Deshpande, Adithi Kalkunte, Sikandar Kher.
Monkey Man is about one man’s quest for vengeance against the corrupt leaders who murdered his mother and continue to systemically victimize the poor & powerless. Set on the streets of modern-day Mumbai, Monkey Man tells the story of a man named Kid (Patel), an ex-con whose return to society is a brutal reminder of how India’s caste system keeps poor and underprivileged trapped in cycles of violence and systemic poverty.
Kid has fond memories of an idyllic childhood being raised by his loving mother (Adithi Kalkunte), who amazed him with stories about Hanuman. But as an adult, Kid’s life is defined by the drudgery of working as an underpaid waiter and the fear of existing in a society where sociopathic elites are free bend the law to their advantage. Inspired by the myths and stories he loved as a child, and how the villainous characters were defeated by the force of good, Kid takes on the criminals that terrorize his city.
Monkey Man is inspired by the courage of Lord Hanuman, a popular god in the Hindu mythology and ancient Indian text, Ramayana. In India, Hanuman is revered as an avatar of Shiva, and a devoted companion of the deity Lord Rama.
