Bangkok, 25 August 2025 — On a night that redefined Thai pageant history, Veena Praveenar Singh, a Thai-Indian model, clinched the title of Miss Universe Thailand 2025. Her victory, celebrated at the grand finale on 23 August held at MGI Hall, Bravo BKK in Bangkok, has been hailed as a milestone—she is the first winner of Indian descent and the first crowned after previously being married and divorced.

A Journey of Resilience

Born on 16 April 1996 in Chiang Mai, Veena grew up in a multicultural household. She attended Satree Yala School in southern Thailand before pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts (Russian major) at Thammasat University, Bangkok. Her mixed Thai-Indian heritage has shaped her identity, making her a powerful symbol of inclusivity in Thailand’s pageantry.

Veena’s journey to the crown was anything but straightforward. She first competed in the Miss Universe Thailand 2018 pageant, representing her home province of Chiang Mai, and finished as second runner-up. She came close again in 2020 as first runner-up and yet again in 2023, taking second runner-up. Finally, on her fourth attempt—representing Saraburi province—she triumphed in 2025.

A Pageant Redefining Boundaries

Veena’s win marks a paradigm shift in the Miss Universe Thailand pageantry. In 2023, the organization revised its rules to allow previously married women to compete. As such, Veena made history as the first married—and later divorced—contestant to claim the crown. Her win shows how pageantry is evolving in step with modern, inclusive values.

In history, Veena Praveenar Singh, a Thai-Indian model, was crowned Miss Universe Thailand 2025 on 23 August at Bangkok’s MGI Hall, Bravo BKK. Her victory marks a historic milestone—she is the first winner of Indian descent and the first to triumph after previously being married and divorced.

A Journey of Resilience and Determination

Veena was born on 16 April 1996 in Chiang Mai, Thailand. She attended Satree Yala School in Yala before moving to Bangkok for her higher education at Thammasat University, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts with a Russian language major.

Her journey in pageantry was far from immediate success. Despite strong performances, she narrowly missed the crown on three previous occasions:

  • 2018: Second runner-up, representing Chiang Mai

  • 2020: First runner-up

  • 2023: Second runner-up, representing Phuket

Each setback seemed to strengthen her resolve. On her fourth attempt—representing Saraburi province—Veena finally clinched the title in 2025.

A Milestone for Inclusivity in Pageantry

Veena's victory represents more than personal triumph; it reflects a broader shift in beauty pageantry in Thailand. In 2023, Miss Universe Thailand revised its eligibility criteria to allow married—and even divorced—contestants to compete. This made Veena not only the first married entrant but also the first divorced winner, marking an evolution toward inclusivity.

A Message Resonating Across Cultures

Veena’s win struck a profound chord in a country where beauty pageant winners have traditionally hailed from ethnically Thai backgrounds. Her multicultural heritage resonated especially with Thailand’s Indian community and progressive society.

Her story was described by many commentators as “breaking the mold,” embracing modern values of diversity and resilience.

The Night of Triumph

The finale unfolded in celebratory grandeur. Seven provincial debuts were announced, and the evening began with vibrant dance performances. As the pageant progressed, the field narrowed from 77 contestants to the top 20, then to the top 10 for the evening gown round, and finally to the top five for the question-and-answer segment.

Veena shone through each stage with composure and confidence, standing out for her thoughtful answers and graceful presence. When asked about the qualities a Miss Universe representative should have, she replied:

“A Miss Universe must not only be beautiful but also be a voice for change, championing compassion, equality, and cultural unity.”

Her win was celebrated by fellow judges and the audience, including Miss Universe 2005, Natalie Glebova, who performed the crown transfer.

Cultural Resonance and Media Response

Thai media celebrated the moment as a leap forward for diversity in the country’s cultural fabric. Veena’s victory resonated strongly with Thailand’s Indian community, sparking conversations on identity, acceptance, and progress in a landscape traditionally dominated by ethnic Thai winners.

Across Asia, outlets termed her win “breaking the mould”—praising her perseverance and the broader symbolic resonance of her achievement.

Looking Ahead: Miss Universe Thailand on the Global Stage

With the 74th Miss Universe pageant set to be hosted in Thailand later this year, Veena will represent her country as the home delegate—a notable advantage. The international event is scheduled for 21 November 2025 at the Impact Challenger Hall in Pak Kret, Nonthaburi.

Veena as a Role Model

Beyond her beauty and poise, Veena’s appeal lies in her authenticity and social presence. In a regional culture often focused on idealized beauty, her win embodies resilience, cultural hybridity, and emotional depth. She has already inspired many young Thais of mixed heritage to embrace their identities and pursue their ambitions without compromise.

Veena Praveenar Singh’s coronation as Miss Universe Thailand 2025 is a cultural milestone, reflecting broader societal shifts toward inclusion and representation. As she prepares for the global Miss Universe stage, Thailand and Southeast Asia will undoubtedly watch with pride and anticipation.
